Mission: As the founder of a non-profit writer’s organization my plans are to expand and include our Veterans & families, in particular those suffering from PTSD. Through writing, regardless of genre an individual is allowed the freedom of expression and gives voice to emotions they have experienced. Two fundamental principles I hold true are that people want to know they matter and want to be heard. I want to provide that avenue where through writing they can feel supported and recognized as worthy humans.
The Creative Classroom: Creativity needs a safe, supportive and non-judgment based environment in order to come to fruition. What I propose is to have a place (either on VA site or off premises) where Veterans & families from all ages can come to discuss, write and embrace the emotions they are experiencing. I will teach tools of the writing and editing process, as well as assist in the publication of their work. I have been fortunate to have learned many things from some skilled writers and knowledge is something to be shared. People suffering from PTSD need a way to process and define their emotions. Arts & literacy are just a few ways that can help them in their healing process.
As previously stated there would never be a fee for anyone wanting to participate. Monies raised (awarded) would be strictly for writing tools, perhaps an extra 1 or 2 laptops, printing expenses. I want their words to be printed so they have a valid place to reside.
Volunteers can help get the word out, assist in writing, listening and just being a friendly shoulder to lean upon.
